Before you buy more traffic, check the handoffs.
Five small checks between a first visit and a useful conversation. Start with the first broken step.
An enquiry is the start of a conversation. The useful question is what happens next: does somebody see it, understand it and help the person move forward?
Before changing your advertising, walk through your own enquiry journey. Use a made-up request and your own test contact details. Keep private customer information out of the exercise.
01 / Can a visitor understand the offer?
Open the homepage on a phone. Ask someone unfamiliar with the business to tell you what you do, who it is for and what to click next. If they need an explanation, simplify the headline and the primary action before adding another section.
02 / Does an enquiry reach an owner?
Submit your test request. Check the confirmation, the team inbox and the person responsible for responding. A message that says “received” is useful, but it does not prove that a person has picked up the request. Agree on who owns it and when a customer should expect a reply.
03 / Is the next step visible?
Open the test enquiry in your system. Can you see its status, last action, next action and owner without asking around? Write the next step in plain language. “Waiting for a preferred appointment time” is more useful than a record with no context.
04 / Can someone book without getting stuck?
Try the booking route on a phone. Check the meeting length, time zone, available times and confirmation. Follow the reschedule or cancellation path using a test booking if you have permission. Remove unnecessary questions; ask only for what helps arrange the conversation.
05 / Can a person take over?
If an AI assistant helps at the front desk, ask it a question it cannot safely answer. Then ask for a person. Check that the request reaches a real owner and that the owner receives enough context to help. An offer to hand off is not the same as a completed handoff.
Turn the checks into a seven-day plan.
Our two-page worksheet helps you record the gap, choose a first fix and check the result. It is designed for a short working session—not another document to file away.
